A truly unique Caribbean paradise.Tobago was "discovered" in 1498, when Christopher Columbus landed on its shores. In reality, it had already been "found" and occupied by the indigenous Amerindian tribes of the Arawaks and Caribs. Tobago was once ruled by a myriad of European powers, including the Spanish, Dutch, French and British, and was decreed a British colony in 1814. Tobago achieved independence in 1962. Tobago, along with her sister island of Trinidad, are home to the two-day explosion of color, pageantry and abandon that marks Carnival. Come join in the parades and dance to the hot Calypso and Soca music that fills the air.
