| Day 3 | Granada | Madrid - Toledo - Granada Today we travel to the ancient capital of Castile - medieval Toledo - encircled by the River Tagus. Sightseeing with a local guide along the quaint and narrow streets highlights the Church of Santo Tome, the Synagogue and a Toledo steel workshop. | Day 4 | Costa del Sol | Granada - Costa del Sol This morning a local guide will take us on a tour of the exquisite Moorish Alhambra Palace with its fountain filled courtyards and stunning Mozarabic architecture. Later on to the Costa del Sol, one of the most popular holiday areas in Europe, where we'll have the chance to dip our feet in the blue waters of the Mediterranean. | Day 5 | Fez | Costa del Sol - Fez (2nights) We start the day with a Mediterranean coastal drive to Tarifa for the crossing to North Africa. We continue into a different world as we enter Morocco, driving past the Rif Mountains to the imperial city of Fez, the first of our six-night stay in Africa. | Day 6 | Fez | Fez sightseeing and at leisure Our morning sightseeing takes in the labryrinthine Medina as well as views of the Royal Palace. Enjoy the atmosphere of this exotic city as you have time to haggle over Moroccan souvenirs. This afternoon, why not visit the Imperial city of Meknes? |
| Day 7 | Marrakesh | Fez - Marrakesh (2 nights) Today an exciting drive takes us through the foothills of the Atlas Mountains to Marrakesh, Africa's most popular year-round sun resort. | Day 8 | Marrakesh | Marrakesh sightseeing and at leisure Our morning guided sightseeing tour with a local guide views the Bahia Palace and stops at the vast Djemma el Fna Square with its palm readers, acrobats, camels, markets and more! Then free time for bargain hunting in the colourful souks and bazaars or perhaps taking an excursion to a Berber village in the Ourika Valley. (Buffet Breakfast) |
| Day 9 | Casablanca | Marrakesh - Casablanca This morning, we drive to cosmopolitan Casablanca, scene of Bogart's most romantic moments. You'll find some of North Africa's best beaches and coastline here. Our sightseeing tour shows us the modern sections of the city, including the amazing mosque. | Day 10 | Tangier | Casablanca - Rabat - Tangier We enjoy a morning drive along the Atlantic Coast to Rabat, capital of this fascinating country. Orientation shows us the Royal Mosque, Mausoleum and the Royal Palace. Then we continue on to the resort of Tangier, where orientation reveals highlights of this interesting seaport, including the Straits of Hercules where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean. | Day 11 | Seville | Tangier - Seville (2 nights) This morning we board our ferry and cruise back to Spain across the narrow Strait of Gibraltar. Then we drive through Jerez vineyards, home of sherry, leading to Andalu-sia's most beautiful city, Seville. Tonight, why not enjoy a fiery flamenco show in one of the many lively night spots? | Day 12 | Seville | Seville sightseeing and at leisure This romantic city was deeply influenced by the Moors, who dwelt in the area for 700 years. Hence the distinctive Moorish architecture of the Giralda Tower, which we see on the morning sightseeing along with the pools and fountains of the Maria Luisa Park, and its elegant pavilions built for the Hispano-American exhibition in 1929. | Day 13 | Lisbon | Seville - Lisbon (2 nights) Today our Tour Director will show us a Hidden Treasure! But first we drive through the arid country of Estremadura to the Portuguese border and the capital of Portugal, Lisbon. | Day 14 | Lisbon | Lisbon sightseeing and at leisure Our morning sightseeing tour with a local guide includes the picturesque medieval quarter and Vasco da Gama's tomb inside the Hieronymite Monastery, plus we see the magnificent Belem Tower and the Monument to the Explorers overlooking the River Tagus. Here we will also see the fine suspension bridge and the statue of Christ the King rising high above the city. (Buffet Breakfast) |
| Day 15 | Salamanca | Lisbon - Fatima - Salamanca Today enjoy a scenic morning drive through the Serra d'Aire Mountains en route to the Shrine at Fatima, scene of celebrated religious miracles. Then we drive across the border back into Spain before reaching Salamanca, Spain's oldest university city. Time to visit the attractive Plaza Mayor before dinner. | Day 16 | Madrid | Salamanca - Madrid A scenic route takes us to Avila, the birthplace of St. Teresa. Here we see the fortifications before we travel past the Sierra de Guadarrama en route back to Madrid. On arrival, our guided sightseeing tour includes a visit to the Prado Museum with its wonderful Velazquez paintings as well as views of the Royal Palace, the Cervantes Memorial, the Cibeles Fountain and the Puerta del Sol.
